I just had a look through my LFS files archive at home, all over ten years old now, sadly I never kept a copy of Chensta's guide either.

Quote from Ball Bearing Turbo :Arguing with Tristan and others about horsepower vs torque was fun too lol

I learned a great deal from chatting with many people (like your good self, Tristan, Todd, Anton, Colcob, etc), either here, on RSC, or all the contacts I once built up on MSN. I miss having these sorts of discussions in my life. The people I meet in real life have a far too diverse set of interests. Big grin

Ubisoft Reflections reception
That's as much as I can show. We've got some more decorations in reception now so it looks more "on brand".

Bloodhound LSR vehicle running with just one engine and it gently accelerates up to 628mph (Mach 0.8) in about 50 sec.

Quote from Eclipsed :Driver

Fun fact, Driver: San Franciso didn't perform as well as expect so the sequel was spun into a new IP that became Watch Dogs.

The detail in London in the upcoming Watch Dogs: Legion has impressed me greatly but then I've not played games for years now so I'm rather behind the times when it comes to expectations and the modern quality standard. The first time I've played a game that has featured a city I know (I'm not counting the GTA: London expansions).

Quote from Taavi(EST) :Yeah, at 100% they're a mess though Big grin

Downsizing to a more moderation resolution with a soft resizing filter should solve that.

Computational photography does wonders without having to think. I compared edited shots from a single still on my system camera to an iPhone auto-HDR shot and the results were surprisingly similar, though I still had better balanced the wide dynamic range of the shot.

Quote from Taavi(EST) :Double posting, but...

Some wide open Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG handheld shots from Tallinn Airport.

Really need a new long lens, in the F2.8 range Smile

Long and f/2.8 gets heavy and expensive real quick. A 300mm f/4 prime (perhaps with a TC) is about the sweet spot of reach and affordability plus still easily hand-holdable. That said I keep toying with the idea of a 300mm f/2.8. Maybe one day I'll take the plunge.

Some great photos though. Proof you don't need overly fancy gear for most shots.

I really like the 2nd and 3rd shots, plus the 2nd and 3rd from last.

Did you intentionally add all the grain?

I agree, changing temperatures would be an important factor and add a lot more depth to the day night cycle than just the visuals. I wouldn't expect Scawen to overlook that. It's certainly much easier to add!

I've just been using Google but no success with Dirty Rally or RBR. Depends if a developer has ever posted the information somewhere. The information often either seems to be promoted or kept secret.

Quote from Neilser :I guess maybe it's too late to start now but having the reference links in the OP would be cool.

I thought about that back in 2009 but by that point every google search for "racing sim physics rates" simply brought up this thread or people talking about it. I suppose I could at least make the ones I found today links, and I can search this forum for some others. Will do that later.

Quote from Neilser :(NB: in case it wasn't a pun that sailed over my head, it's Assetto Corsa & assettocorsa.net, not Corsica Thumbs up)

Oops, fixed!

Electric cars can still benefit from gearing, but far less so than combustion engines. Low speed acceleration is generally already more than competitive. Keeping power at higher speeds is not really a concern for your typical road car, given that manufacturers are now looking to bring top speeds down. As such, the extra cost and complexity is not needed.

No gearbox also makes packaging the a motors into the each wheel much more practical and then you don't need a differential either and can just rely on electronic torque vectoring for managing stability and variant wheel speeds. It's a more modern but ultimately much more flexible solution.

BUMP! Wave

Only been a decade since I compiled this list (see first post) and a few sims have come out since. If anybody knows or cares to find out about some more recent sims not in this list, please post up here. Ideally with a reference.

Thanks

The ability to be able to independently tune for lateral stiffness versus vertical deflection could be used to great benefit on off-road racing. I'm not sure why these aren't more mainstream yet.

I'm unsure which way to read that brake factor. Is a higher or lower number better? As I'd expect there to be an optimal temperature (or tempertaure range), above or below which the force reduces.

There's another video here: https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1109461_thermal-camera-shows-how-hot-brake-rotors-get-during-use

Agreed, great job by Eric, an area that had not had much love in a long time.

Interesting to watch, thanks for sharing that. Surprised at how easy the surface of the tread cools on a straight (esp for the non-driven wheels).

While there's nothing said for the detail of this simulation, I do like the modular nature of connecting anything to anything. It's something I'm trying to do myself if I can get the time. To be able to rapidly prototype new configurations in a simulation environment is very useful. I would hazard a guess that LFS is rather for mixed in it's layout.

If it's modified content that got you sold on LFS, then that's wonderful.

By too literal, I meant that just because screenshots are called out as being banned, doesn't mean everything other than screenshots is encouraged. Definitely just unavoidable toleration.

On that note, tweaker apps used to be permitted but after some time, the devs changed their mind on that (giving different handling but could be combined with modified vobs). I can't argue, that was all fun while it lasted.

Regards piracy (or rather copyright infringement), I think that only applies if the content is being sold. The water muddies if the devs are seen to encourage free but copyrighted content in order to sell their own content.
